The third month post-surgery primarily focuses on the building up of James’s stamina and increasing his daily steps. As James returned to work and had planned holidays on July 1st, this month was a real challenge not to overload the body in striving to reach and sustain 10,000 steps per day by the end. This will ensure that by the time we get to go away on holiday to Tenerife, we can explore comfortably without excessive sweating, breathlessness, or sore joints and feet. The main activity for this month has been walking.
Weeks 9-10: May 21st to June 3rd:
- Walking:
- Building up from approximately 1,000 steps per day to 6,000 steps per day.
- We did 3 walks per day, one in the morning, one on James’ lunch hour and one in the evening after James’ work.
Weeks 11-12: June 4th to June 17th:
- Walking:
- Building up from around 6,000 steps per day to 10,000 steps per day.
- We went on 3 walks per day, one in the morning, one on James’ lunch hour and one in the evening after James’ work.
Additional Tips:
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially before, during, and after walks.
- Proper Footwear: Use comfortable shoes with support to avoid aching joints and feet.
- Monitoring Progress: Keep a record of steps and, in time, build up walking time to work toward your goals.
- Listen to Your Body: When you experience discomfort or pain, then rest, and if need be, seek the advice of your healthcare provider.
- Build some movement into your daily life: Take the stairs, walk on breaks, and find other ways to get more movement throughout the day.
