What this site is
Everything here comes from James and Kirsten’s own experience with gastric sleeve surgery. That covers the whole journey, not just the surgery itself: the research and back and forth that went into deciding gastric sleeve was the right option for us in the first place, the process of choosing a surgeon and preparing for the operation, the surgery and recovery, and the ongoing, still unfolding reality of living with a permanently smaller stomach years on. Nothing on this site is written from a clinical or professional perspective. It is written from ours, as patients, alongside research we have done to back it up where relevant.
How the writing process actually works
James has mild dyslexia and Kirsten has severe dyslexia. Writing long, structured articles by hand is genuinely difficult for both of us, and it was one of the biggest barriers to actually starting this site in the first place. Rather than let that stop us from sharing what we have learned, our raw notes, voice recordings, and rough written drafts are fed into AI tools, which help turn them into finished articles written in a consistent James and Kirsten voice, the same voice you are reading right now.
Every fact, experience, opinion, and detail published on this site comes directly from us. The AI is a writing and editing tool that helps us structure and phrase what we already know and have lived through, it is not a source of information or experience in its own right, and it does not generate content about topics we have not actually researched or gone through ourselves. We read and approve everything before it goes live on the site.
Why we are telling you this
We would want to know this if we were reading a site like ours, so we are telling you plainly rather than leaving it unsaid. This process exists because of a genuine barrier, not because we are trying to cut corners, and it does not change where the actual content, the lived experience, and the research behind it come from. That part is entirely us.
Accuracy and medical information
Where articles reference medical information, we base that on published guidance from sources such as the NHS, NICE, and the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society, and we link to those sources at the bottom of the relevant articles. Nothing on this site is medical advice, and every post carries a disclaimer reminding readers to speak to their own GP or bariatric team before making decisions about their health.

We started this blog because we couldn't find any sources of content that details before surgery, the surgery and then life post surgery - so we decided to write one ourselves.
